Some Tips On Kerosene Heaters - The Kerosene Heater Igniter

The cold winter weather is here! Its time to get those kerosene heaters out that you have had stored all summer long, if you haven’t all ready. If your kerosene heater igniter looks like it is corroded or if you think it’s time to replace the old one than here’s some helpful tips for you this winter season.

Remember if you use your kerosene heaters on a regular basis you should keep a regular maintenance schedule on them. I recommend a late winter-early spring checkup and a late fall-early winter checkup. Be sure to check all critcal kerosene heater parts such as the wick and igniter.

1. Once before storing them in your home, building, shed, basement, or garage for the summer months.
2. And once before using them on the cold winter nights.

Safety Tips:
· Make sure you keep your kerosene heater in a well ventilated area.
· Remember all Kerosene heaters burn with a wick and flame so please use caution while the kerosene heater is in use.
Always remember to make sure to never leave a kerosene heater burning alone, especially if there will be children in the room where the heater is burning

Here are some helpful tips on how to test kerosene heater igniters in making sure it is working properly.

1. Make sure you have selected and changed your batteries to provide enough electricity to heat the igniter to light the heater
2. You can use 2 ( C or D size) batteries
3. Move the igniter lever to see if the heating coil glows red hot
4. The contact points can get yucky and corroded, so you will need to clean them with a really good contact cleaner such as Tronic Kleen Plus Lube that works great, then replace the igniter .You can find this cleaner available at Radio Shack Stores in your area..
5. Also igniters resemble a flashlight bulb, if you remove the bulb, you will be able to see if the heating coil has become corroded, clogged, or even broken.
6. If your igniter is damaged it should be replaced with a new replacement igniter depending on the style you would need. There are three different styles to choose from. There’s Style A, B, or C that would best suit your model. You will be able to identify the correct style that was made for your model.

If you are not sure what style it takes to fit your Kerosene heater you would need to look on the back of your heater to locate the name and model number of your heater.

I hope you will have a safe winter heating your home, office, or building etc this season.
